Harold Priego won First Place and took home a cash prize of 125,000 pesos for his short film, “No lo revivas” which the jury said possessed an “excellent combination of animation technology and an excellent sound track which, along with the story, enabled viewers to relive, in a totally unique fashion, the feelings shared by all Dominicans about the heroic deeds of May 30th.

This short film contest is part of the commemorative program held to remember May 30, 1961 when the dictator Trujillo was killed. The purpose of the program is to disseminate democratic ideas, to awaken patriotic sensibility and to honor this historic event as an episode that opened the door to Dominican freedom and democracy.

Fernando Santos took second place with “Mañana de Palos” for which he was awarded 75,000 pesos. The jury said his short film contained a “narrative full of poetry with a truly cinematic language which, with very few words, we learn all that is necessary to know not only about those involved but also about the period in which they lived.”

In third place, Julio Pérez´sLa caída del muñeco” won 50,000 pesos for the film´s “originality for telling that moment of history through the eyes of a little boy who is playing with dolls. It shows a filmmaker´s point of view from a truly unique perspective.”
