A  special program of exhibitions, theatrical presentations, concerts and workshops will be offered by the Ministry of Culture (MINC in Spanish) at this year’s 4th annual “Long Night at the Museums” in which all the major museums around the country will participate. 


This fourth version of “Long Night at the Museums” will be held on December 10th, National Heritage Day, and will take place in Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, Puerto Plata and La Romana provinces.


This special cultural event, involving the Culture Ministry’s Directorate of Museums, is organized to give people who generally don’t visit museums an opportunity to check out the country’s wealth of art and to realize the importance of safeguarding the collections that contain an essential testimony to our history and identity.


This fourth version of “Long Night at the Museums” will be held on December 10th, National Heritage Day, and will take place in Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, Puerto Plata and La Romana provinces.


Beginning at 9:00 in the morning until midnight, more than 20 museums will be open to the public, completely free of charge. The museums will be offering visitors special programs in addition to a chance to view the permanent exhibition in all the galleries. The day will end with a street party with music and history in the streets where museums are located around the Colonial Zone.


On this day, Dominicans will have the opportunity to enjoy guided museum tours, street tours around the Colonial Zone, art exhibitions, musical and theatrical events a chance to see the various art collections at all participating museums.


In addition, there will be courses, workshops, sack races, documentaries, games, dancing, food sampling, dialogues with artists and many other attractions.


The “Long Night at the Museums” can be enjoyed at the following museums in Santo Domingo: Museum of the Dominican Family of the XIX Century, Children’s Trampoline Museum, Alcázar of Columbus Museum, Atarazanas Reales Museum, Museum of the Dominican Man, National Museum of Natural History, Museum of the Casas Reales, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Dominican Music, Bellapart Museum, Columbus Lighthouse Museum and the Fort Museum of Santo Domingo.


In Santiago, the León Center; in Puerto Plata, the San Felipe Colonial Fort and in Romana, the Regional Archeological Museum of Altos de Chavón.


Also participating in this daylong event are the Telecommunications Center of INDOTEL, Audio Guide Dominicana, the Cultural Heritage Inventors Center, the Spanish Cultural Center, the Dominican Development Foundation, the Duarte Institute, the Image Center and the Consistorial Palace.
