Building a Better Country while Guaranteeing Children´s Rights

The Office of the First Lady is holding a variety of activities to celebrate International Prevention of Child Abuse Day.

One of them is the Network for a Country Free of Child Abuse, in which more than 30,000 children and adolescents are made aware of their rights and the self-protective measures in place to prevent child abuse.

The Office of the First Lady (DPD in Spanish), directed by Dr.  Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, is developing a series of initiatives that seek to protect the rights and well-being of people under the age of 18 years of age.

One of them is the Network for a Country Free of Child Abuse, in which more than 30,000 children and adolescents are made aware of their rights and the self-protective measures in place to prevent child abuse.

There is also the Progresando Values Movement in which more than 100.000 children, adolescents, young adults and adults are in involved in the process of training about values and in the construction of an active citizenry all around the country.

With these projects underway, the DPD seeks to promote respect and to guarantee children’s right as a way of contributing to the formation of responsible and respectful people who will contribute significantly to the building of a better country.

Among the context of these fundamental rights includes correctly educating, orienting and accompanying these young people in their growth process as they develop into responsible and respectful adults who will fulfill the principles and social norms of society. The goal also includes guiding young people to be considerate, respectful and appreciative of others while maintaining high morals that will allow them to form healthy relationships as they exercise their rights and carry out their responsibilities within society.
