Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 11/16/2011

“Dominicana Verde: Water,” is the name of the most recent documentary made by the group, Plan Dominicana Verde (Dominican Green Plan), with support from the German Embassy in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Speleological Society. The documentary focuses on water as the main source of life and support in the biosphere. The film´s starting point is the United Nation´s Millennium goals which seek to cut by half the number of people lacking in sustainable drinking water and basic sanitation services.

Dominicana Verde: Agua” calls for the preservation of this precious liquid for the benefit of future generations as it documents marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic who need to travel long distances in search of safe drinking water. It also looks at the importance of the country’s hydraulic reserves.

The documentary includes the participation of the following experts: Archeologist and Cave Expert (Spelunker), Domingo Abreu of the Spelunker Group; Biologist, Rubén Torres of Reef Check; architect and city planner, Marcos Barinas Uribe of RECUA as well as architects Erick Dorrejo and Teresa Moreno; Cristian Pittaro of the Dominican Republic Speleological Society along with Phillip Lehman and Pietro Donaggio were involved in the related archival footage of the subterranean waters of the Dominican Republic.
