Dominican dancer Lorelei Acosta won a prize at the most important dance contest in the world, the “Ahlan Wa Sahlan” (Welcome) Festival held recently in Cairo, Egypt.


The “Ahlan Wa Sahlan” Festival attracts more than 2,000 dancers every year from all over the world. Since its creation, over more than a decade ago, the dance contest has become the most important in the world.


The outstanding Oriental dancer, Lorelei Acosta, was awarded the for second-place prize this past July and a medal of honor at the most important dance competition in the world held at the “Ahlan Wa Sahlan” Festival in Egypt, the birthplace of belly dance. This was the first time ever that a Dominican participated in this contest.


The “Ahlan Wa Sahlan” Festival attracts more than 2,000 dancers every year from all over the world. Since its creation, over more than a decade ago, the dance contest has become the most important in the world.


There were contestants from countries such as Russia, Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, France, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, among others. Lorelei managed to take second place in the professional category, receiving great praise from the most important Belly Dance masters in the world who all agreed that her performance was that of an “authentic Egyptian dancer.”.


Lorelei participated with improvisation along with a live band, one with the most classical among Egyptian musicians.


Lorelei, who organized the successful “Inter-Regional Oriental Dance Encounter” last April at the Casa de Teatro, lived for a long time in Cairo where she spent a lot of time studying and perfecting her dance knowledge and skills.

Her students and faithful followers enjoy the magic and the soul which Lorelei puts into each of her performances. With each movement, she brilliantly displays her spirituality, technique, elegance, sensuality and more importantly, her deep love of dance.

Currently she has her own dance studio called, “Lorelei Acosta, Oriental Dance”.


Lorelei, a Dominican who crosses oceans, is outstanding and makes her country outstanding
