Minister of the Environment urges people to prevent pollution and create a healthy environment

EMinister of the Environment and Natural Resources, Engineer Ernesto Reyna Alcántara, led an event to support the campaign for the prevention and control of cancer “Today is the best time”, which is carried out by the Office of First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández. The campaign urges the population to avoid contamination in order to create a healthier environment that would prevent the spread of diseases such as cancer which affect a significant part of the population.

Minister Alcántara Reyna called on the general public to become more aware about the implications of this disease, emphasizing prevention first and then early detection.

During the event that was attended by officials and employees of the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Tourism demonstrated a bond of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer “Today is the best time.”

Minister Alcántara Reyna called on the general public to become more aware about the implications of this disease, emphasizing prevention first and then early detection.

He said that a sound and healthy environment would prevent the emergence of diseases such as the cancers that are causing suffering in Dominican families.

“We are good environmental stewards so that the Dominican people have a healthy environment, protecting our natural resources. This is a means of preventing breast cancer and other diseases. If we have a healthy environment it will be more difficult for the diseases that attack us to take hold,” said Engineer Ernesto Reyna Alcántara.

He said that we must avoid living in a degraded environment, in filthy polluted areas and he urged society to defend the environment and natural resources, because in doing so we are defending our health.

Engineer Ernesto Reyna Alcántara called on the population, businesses and civic associations to exercise responsible citizenship in the International Year of Forests and in Reforestation Month and to organize tree planting workdays because these actions will slow down climate change and they are a fundamental part of the equation for maintaining a stable global environment and climate.
