The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES in Spanish) recently recognized Kelly Robinson de Shaun, Executive Director of the Association of Hotels La Romana-Bayahibe (AHRB), for her contribution and activity directed at achieving organization and comprehensive sustainability of the area she represents.


This annual award seeks to recognize the managers who, through their hard work and persistence have made a big difference in the Dominican tourism industry. They also recognize property and real estate that has important international distinction.


Ms. Kelly’s recognition was part of the XXV Commercial Expo in which ASONAHORES, through its Ladies Committee, honored the general managers of their member hotels for their outstanding work.

This annual award seeks to recognize the managers who, through their hard work and persistence have made a big difference in the Dominican tourism industry. They also recognize property and real estate that has important international distinction.


Managers recognized at this event included: Gabriel García Pardo from the Excellence Punta Cana; Guillermo Montero Medero, of Iberostar Punta Cana; Julio Almonte of the Hotel Celuisma Tropical Playa Dorada; César Güílamo, director of Hotel Barceló Dominican Beach in Bávaro; Eduardo Alcalde, director of Paradisus Palma Real Bávaro-Punta Cana (Sol Meliá) and  Rafael Telichowski, of the Hotel Punta Cana Princess.


Others were Juan Matias Colombo Jiménez, director general of Gran Hotel Bahía Príncipe Cayacoa, Samaná; Ricardo Domínguez, Executive Director of Ibersotar Grand Bávaro Hotel; Federico Espinal, General Manager of the Caribe Club Hotels & Tropical Princess, Bávaro; Claudia Schwarz, owner of the Villa Taina; Pablo Jaureguizar, of the Be Live Grand Punta Cana Hotel; Rosalba Guillardi, General Manager of Villa Serena Samaná; Osiris Cid, of the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada Hotel and Exmín Carvajal, commercial director of the InterContinental V Centenario Santo Domingo & Holiday Inn Santo Domingo.


One company recognized was the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino, which obtained the Crystal America Certification “Check Safety First 2010” for having fulfilled Safety and Hygiene Standards, Guest Safety and Personnel Safety against fire.


In addition, the Hotel Occidental El Embajador, Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana, Hotel Bahía Príncipe Cayo Levantado, Revista Meeting & Convention Magazine, Hotel Paradisus Palma Real, Iberostar Grand Bávaro, Hotel Zoetry Agua Punta Cana, Victoria Resort, International Airport of Punta Cana and  American Airlines received recognition. GTS DOMINICANA, S.A. also received an award.

Kelly Robinson is in charge of sustainable tourism programs, marketing, public relations and publicity of this booming tourism destination of La Romana- Bayahíbe. She has 13 years of successful experience in the international tourism industry having work as director of marketing and hotel operations, administration of projects and environmental quality control.


She was the Executive Director of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (CAST), a subsidiary of the Caribbean Hotels Association (CHA) where she was in charge of developing environmental and social programs for the region’s tourism sector.


She held important positions in national and international institutions, such as Corporate Director of the Department of Environmental and Social Affairs of the PUNTACANA Group. She was also a Peace Corp volunteer at the US Embassy.


She has participated in such events as the CARICOM Tourism Summit, the First Regional Seminar on Sustainable Tourism, the United Nations Commission Meeting on Sustainable Development, the Seminar on Responsibilities of the Private Sector in Sustainable Tourism and the Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism held under the auspices of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)


Ms. Kelly is a graduate of Hotel Administration from the Hilton College, part of University of Houston. She holds an MA in Regional and Community Planning and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas School of Architecture.
