The Ministry of Culture (MINC in Spanish), through the General Directorate of Training and Formation, celebrated the graduation of forty two communicators who participated in the First Cultural Journalism Degree.


“In these times, where these cultural spaces are disappearing in the media, these types of degrees are essential as they seek to strengthen the training of our journalists …”


The ceremony, held in Culture Hall of the National Theater, was presided over by Culture Minister, José Rafael Lantigua, and Mateo Aquino Febrillet, Rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

“In these times, where these cultural spaces are disappearing in the media, these types of degrees are essential as they seek to strengthen the training of our journalists so that they can be true spokespeople for cultural development in our country, developing themes like popular culture, fine arts, cultural diversity and the creative industries with mature and incisive analyses,” said Minister Lantigua.


For his part, Aquino Febrillet added that journalist should assume an active attitude in the face of the challenges in today’s world. He thanked the Ministry of Culture and School of Journalism for the initiative.


Following the speeches, José Rafael Lantigua, Mateo Aquino Febrillet and Federico Henríquez Gratereaux handed out the diplomas to the graduating students.


The course lasted for eight months and covered a time period of 110 hours, divided into 12 modules. There was an active participation of well-known media, literary, and cultural professionals such as Federico Henr íquez Gratereaux, Luís Beiro, Mateo Morrison, Oscar Peña, Onofre de la Rosa, José Rafael Sosa,  Luís Rafael Santos, Eugenio García Cuevas (from Puerto Rico) and Carlos E. Guzmán Cárdenas (from Venezuela), among others.
