After twelve years of searching for solutions to keep Encuentro Beach open to public access, especially for surfers, kite surfers and windsurfers who enjoy this Cabarete paradise, an agreement has finally been reached between civil society, the Association of Aquatic Sports of the Northern Coast (ADACON in Spanish) and the Town Hall of Cabarete.

This resolution, 04-11 taken at an extraordinary session on July 21, 2011, approved the recuperation of all green and natural heritage areas in the entire Cabarete Municipality.

This resolution, 04-11 taken at an extraordinary session on July 21, 2011, approved the recuperation of all green and natural heritage areas in the entire Cabarete Municipality. This extremely important decision reflects the tenacity, responsibility and conscientiousness of civil society to take the necessary steps to protect the environment and rights of the community.

Having approved the resolution, the Association of Aquatic Sports of the Northern Coast represented by its president Ricardo Ripoll, lawmakers from the Town Hall and Municipality of Cabarete, represented by Gabriel Mora, undertook the first steps of the Master Plan that will convert Encuentro Beach into a self-sustaining ecological corridor starting with Rocón and running along Camino Real or the old southern road.

This official move will guarantee public access, without restrictions, to one of the few places in the world that allows the practice of surfing in the morning and kite and windsurfing in the afternoon. Encuentro Beach, a heritage site that will from now on, be an inalienable site open to all Dominicans and protected under the law for all community and aquatic sports associations along the northern coast to enjoy. This important decision has many people to thank, among them are: Philip Lehman, Lorenzo Sancasanni, Nelson Gutierrez, Clarisa Ruiz, Ricardo Ripoll and syndicate member Gabriel Mora.
