One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Dominican Republic is its cooking and food. The mix of cultures is reflected in its culinary creations such as desserts and Creole sweets. To make these delectable treats which are a preference among all Dominicans, the country produces a variety of natural ingredients such as cane sugar, honey, coconut, milk, corn, vegetables and tropical fruits.


Sweet Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo Dulce) is carried out to benefit the Dr. Heriberto Pieter Volunteer Cancer Institute.


Four years ago, Producciones Buen Vivir (Good Living Productions), as a way of supporting and promoting Dominican food and culture, created the “Sweet Santo Domingo ” event – the sweetest happening in the Caribbean. This event brings together luxury pastries, gourmet and cutting edge masters of chocolate and the most exquisite dessert and baking delights.


Sweet Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo Dulce) is carried out to benefit the Dr. Heriberto Pieter Volunteer Cancer Institute. In each category, different personalities are recognized for their large contributions and promotion of our rich Creole sweets.


This year’s Sweet Santo Domingo is dedicated to Rafael Perelló, president of Industrias Banilejas (Induban). Diana Munné, outstanding chocolate artist and owner of Xocolat, is also being honored. Several hotel owners of the Northern Zone are also being honored: Nazario López Felipe de Turey, Miguelina Mirabal de García of the Miguelina Parador and the brothers Danilo and Ramón Rodríguez of Rodríguez Sweets.


On this occasion, Sweet Santo Domingo will hold the First Dominican Pastry Cup in which participants must make all their creations using only Dominican products as a way of contributing to the country’s sustainable tourism.


Sweet Santo Domingo is organized by Producciones Buen Vivir, a company that specializes in planning and carrying out innovative culinary events in the Dominican Republic under the auspices of the National Competitiveness Council and the Santo Domingo Cluster. This sweet event will take place on Wednesday August 24 in the Hotel Dominican Fiesta beginning at 5:00 PM.
