Higiene Máxima (HIMAX) is a certificate issued to hotels which are considered to be free of all sanitary risks


The acknowledgement was received by the General Manager of hotel Meliá Santo Domingo, Mr. Roberto Henríquez, and presented by the Regional Director for Hima, Dr. Manuel Grillo.


Hotel Meliá Santo Domingo obtained, for the eighth consecutive year, the “Higiene Máxima” (Maximum Hygiene), distinction awarded by “Himax”, after meeting the highest standards required by the institution, which is recognized by the WHO and the FAO.


The acknowledgement was received by the General Manager of hotel Meliá Santo Domingo, Mr. Roberto Henríquez, and presented by the Regional Director for Hima, Dr. Manuel Grillo.


The “Higiene Máxima” Certification is awarded to hotels, restaurants and similar companies, who meet the highest quality standards and can be considered free of sanitary risks.


Hotel Meliá Santo Domingo maintains its standards for outstanding service, as a hotel that is free of any sanitary risk, a fact that is certified by international organizations that guarantee the quality of the hotel’s hygiene.


These same organizations also vouch for the hotel’s excellent, risk-free management in areas destined for water, food and beverages.


Himax follows regulations set forth by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in the hands of their joint commission, the Codex Alimentarius.


Codex Alimentarius, is the branch of FAO and WHO in charge of outlining all the sanitary regulations relating to the food and beverage industries, and Himax complies with all the regulations and guidelines established by the commission.


Dr. Manuel Grillo, in charge of presenting the certification to hotel Meliá, has been a part-time consultant to WHO and FAO for the past 25 years. He is a medical doctor specializing in hygiene, epidemiology and nutrition. In 1995, he was the recipient of the WHO award for the American continent.
