Dominican Hip Hop or Hip Hop from the Dominican Republic has a style of its own, which is a mixture of its native music.


This lifestyle and cultural style has since made it all around the world. The four elements of Hip Hop came to the Dominican Republic in the 1980s by young immigrants who returned to their homeland generally from New York, Boston and Florida.


Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the J8 Silesian group who are attending World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain in August, are organizing Hip Hop a la Carte for Saturday July 23 at 7:00 pm in the Monina Solá Theater of the Narciso González Cultural Center in Villa Juana.


Hip Hop a la Carte seeks to be an impulse to the transcendence of Hip Hop in the Dominican Republic. The following groups will participate: TOP 7; R-70; DNI DANCER; DNUFLOW; STREET DANCE CREW; NUCLEO EXTREMO; METAMORFOSIS, SMP CREW, MILITANTES and 4 EN 1.

Hip hop is an artistic movement that became popular in the United States at the end of the 1960s. Its rise took place in the African-American and Latin-American communities of popular New York neighborhoods in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn. DJ Afrika Bambaataa explained the four pillars of Hip Hop culture: MC, DJ, break dancing and graffiti. Other elements include beat-boxing.

Some of the first Dominican Hip Hop performers were Itto Gammy, Born MC El Ministro, B.MC.P, Tribu Revelde, La Botella, El Padrino, Moroco, Sonic, Over Dose, Big Paulie, Panpano Trukiny, DJ Mahogany, DJ Strike One, Los Guerreros Del Oriente, Sandy MC, Mariano MC, MC Papo, ALE-X, Eury, Hussi, Wistin, D.B.P, Alcapone Rap, Your Base (Papi Sanchez), El círculo de Muerte, Zona de Fuego, The Click Squad, Majah Magandy, MCD, Tary and Nucleo Salomon.


Some Dominican Hip Hop singers were influenced by DJs and African-American MCs like Grandmaster Flash, Lovebug Starski, The Sugarhill Gang, DJ Clive Kool Herc, Grand Wizard Theodore, Melle Mel, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, The Wu Tang Clan, Krs1, Nas, Gravediggaz several others. Other rappers from the Dominican Republic were influenced by Reggae and Reggaeton singers from Puerto Rico and Panama, as in the case of Vico C, Daddy Yankee, Mexicano, Og Black and Master Joe, Manuelito, Falo, Lito & Polaco, DJ Eric, DJ Nelson, Baby Rasta & Gringo, DJ Playero, El General, DJ Flex, Eddi Dee, Blanco, Hector & Tito, Wison G and Ivy Queen.
