In a declaration, Dominican President Leonel Fernández, made way for the creation of a protected Jaya Shores Ecological Park “with the goal of conserving and taking advantage of its natural attributes, deploying a series of actions necessary and pertinent for the rescue of it altered ecosystem and to put its natural value to public use.”

According to Decree 351-11, the protected strip of this green and recreational area and is defined by a portion of the margins of the river, which extends 30 meters as measured from the water’s shore during its normal course or averaged in the sphere of the city, 500 radial meters from its beginning and 100 meters of its entire length from Los Ganchos hill to its entrance into the urban area of San Francisco de Macorís and where it flows out near the urban perimeter of Jaya.


Starting at this point, it is fifty meters on both margins until it reaches land plot number 95 in the Catastral District #9 in the Province of San Francisco de Macorís, located along with western margin continuing down the 50-meter strip until it flows into the Camú River, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


The decree solicits solidarity and active participation from the private sector, community organizations and all citizens of the northern area to make an effort to carry out actions that will lead to the creation of this ecological and social public work and make it a reality for San Francisco de Macorís and the country.

The text states in one of its considerations “the high level of interests of the Dominican Government in developing and promoting areas for recreation and high ecological value which serve as natural reserves to be used and enjoyed by current and future generations.”
