INAFOCAM Will Launch a Pilot Program to Promote Docent Training Program
República Dominicana, Santo Domingo,10/05/2011

The National Institute for Training and Preparation (INAFOCAM), will launch a pilot docent training program directed toward young people in their last years of high school. The idea is to guarantee that those who wish to continue in the field of education are accepted at universities and in the teaching profession when they graduate from high school. The pilot program is being launched as part of the International Book Fair, currently underway in Santo Domingo.

At the same time, organizers will be appearing on television and radio to provide more information about the benefits of being a teacher.

This strategy seeks to sensitize high school students to value their docent experience as a future professional teacher’s option.

Actions to be carried out in this campaign include the distribution of promotional articles such as brochures, posters, buttons and notebooks, among other things. At the same time, organizers will be appearing on television and radio to provide more information about the benefits of being a teacher.

This program, organized by INAFOCAM, also includes meetings with orientation leaders from the Media Education Centers for those professionals who can play a role in the process of helping young people understand the media.

Throughout the Book Fair, informal polls will be taken to ascertain what high school students think about the teaching profession. This task is being done to gather information to be used to identify the important elements necessary to guarantee that young people go into teaching. It will also help organizers understand what they need to be doing and identifying in order to develop future campaigns of this nature.

In order to design and carry out this campaign, INAFOCAM has looked at successful experiences from other countries where the education system is regarded as high quality. These countries have policies that emphasize the recruiting of future teachers among the best students of each generation. The countries with successful education experiences are showing us how a quality education system goes hand-in-hand with good teacher-hiring practices, according to INAFOCAM’s Office of Communications and Publications.

The Ministry of Education’s stand at the Book Fair has the backing of INAFOCAM technicians who will be offering information on programs and grants for high school students. They are also handing out pre-registration applications for students who have already decided to go into the teacher’s training program.
