Labor Minister, Max Puig, presented the Road Map Action Program that will promote the Dominican Republic as one of the countries to be considered free of child labor. Minister Puig explained that the fundamental objective of the presentation of the road map is to ratify the DR’s commitment to eradicate the worse forms of child labor, as a goal for 2015.


“The road map is the commitment to make the Dominican Republic free of the worst forms of child labor from 2015 to 2020 within the framework of the hemispheric development agenda,”

Puig confirmed that the undertaking of the road map is the appropriate moment to announce the governmental and private commitment to confront the challenges of the country in relation to these challenges, proposals and details in the plan, according to the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity. 


The Labor Minister said it is necessary for all the sectors involved to fulfill the fundamental tasks of the Road Map. “It is what will move us closer to the goals of eliminating the worst forms of child labor in the Dominican Republic.”


Labor representatives and business people such as members of the National Directive Committee for the Struggle against Child Labor were present at the activity which took place in the Green Room of the National Palace. Other representatives from civil society and international organizations were also there, including the International Labor Organization (ILO), the ONUSIDA and UNICEF.


Virgilio Levaggi, Sub-regional Director was there for the International Labor Organization; Jesús de la Peña, for the International Program against Child Labor and Valery Julliard, resident coordinator of the United Nations Development Program in the DR.
