President Congratulates Chilean Head of State for Miners’ Safe Rescue

Dominican President Leonel Fernández, sent a message of congratulations on Wednesday to his Chilean counterpart, Sebastian Piñera, for the successful rescue operation that saved the lives of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for nearly 70 days.

“we join the world in rejoicing at the success of this operation that brought these 33 men back to where they belong. Only by the grace of God, the will of the authorities and support and cooperation of all the people were these positive results achieved.”

The President explained that “day by day, from our country, we followed this tragedy which has in the end been turned into a tribute to perseverance, faith and unity for which the Dominican people are happy.” 

Fernández, in his letter, praised the strength of each of the men and their families for having held up under adversity of this magnitude without ever losing faith. At the same time, he offered all of his support to the Chilean leader.
