Internal Revenue Office Holds First Regional Seminar for Tax Administration Officials

This first regional seminar, developed under the title “A Comprehensive Vision of Tax Control Processes Beginning with Basic Elements in Tax Administration Offices” was held with the objective of providing continuity to the technical assistance process initiated by CAPTAC-DR.


The Dominican Internal Revenue Office (DGII in Spanish) held its first Regional International Seminar, “A Comprehensive Vision of Tax Control Processes Beginning with Basic Elements in Tax Administration Offices.” The seminar was attended by 36 tax administration officials from 8 countries.


The two day-event, organized by the DGII and Technical Assistance for Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR), was an intensive working program attended by tax administration officials from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic with the cooperation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT).


The opening of the event was held on Monday at the Hotel V Centenario with opening speeches by Nieves Vargas, chief of the Department for International Cooperation of the Internal Revenue Office and Patricio Castro, main economist for the International Monetary Fund.


Other speakers included specialists like Marcio Verdi, Executive Secretary of CIAT; Oscar Vásquez, resident  expert in tax administrations from CAPTAC-DR as well as tax experts from Spain, Fernando Díaz Lluvero and Carlos Herrera who talked about issues such as “Main Trends in Tax Administrations in Latin America and Europe,”  “Key Elements for Proper Functioning of the AA.TT.” and “Special Control Units.”


Germania Montás Yapur, Deputy General Director of DGII representing the Director General, closed the program on Tuesday with a speech about the “Successful Experience of the Modernization Process” in which she talked about the technological transformation of the Dominican tax administration which has become a frame of reference for other tax administration offices in Latin America.
