Central Bank and IDB Sign Agreement to Carry Out Survey on Social Sector
The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic and the Inter-American Development Bank signed a collaboration agreement for the former to carry out a national survey in support of the work being done by the Solidarity Program.


The signature implies a total financing on the part of the IDB, under the non-refundable cooperation modality whose administration will be carried out by the Central Bank, under the supervision of the Department of National Accounts and Economic Statistics.


The survey will research the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of the Program for Conditional Transferences of Solidarity with the goal of evaluating the Program’s relevant data.


The signing ceremony took place in the Meeting Hall of the Central Bank’s governing office and was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu and Manuel Labrado, representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


The signature implies a total financing on the part of the IDB, under the non-refundable cooperation modality whose administration will be carried out by the Central Bank, under the supervision of the Department of National Accounts and Economic Statistics.


The results obtained by the survey will allow authorities develop a study establishing the potential of the Solidarity Program in terms of its capacity to protect low income households from the impact of food price hikes. It also seeks to determine the characteristics of its beneficiaries and to evaluate the impact of internal design innovations underway.


Equally, to carry out an ex-post evaluation of its original scheme of co-responsibilities and payments and to evaluate the feasibility of using cellular phones as an instrument to promote the accumulation of human capital.


Those present at the signing ceremony with the Governor included the Deputy Governor  Clarissa de la Rocha de Torres; Pedro Silverio, Manager; Olga Díaz, Economic Advisor to the Governor’s Office: Miguel Jiménez Cornielle, Director of the Department of National Accounts and Economic Statistics and Dafne Vales de Delgado, Technical Consultant of the same department.


From his part, Mr. Labrado, of the IDB, was accompanied by Jorge Torres, Specialist in Social Development and Susana Gamez, Technical Coordinator of the Cabinet of Social Policy of the Dominican Government.
