President Fernández in Germany and the United States
E Dominican President Leonel Fernández left on Saturday in the direction of Madrid, Spain on his way to Germany where he will be met by his counterpart Christian Wulff and German Prime Minister, Angela Merkel. After that he will travel to the United States to meet with President Barack Obama. 


President Fernández will be traveling and following a busy schedule until July 13. His schedule includes meetings with business people and other personalities from these two nations, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


President Fernández left at 5:40 pm on Iberia flight number 6502 from the Las Americas  International Airport accompanied by Foreign Minister, Carlos Morales Troncoso; Finance Minister, Vicente Bengoa; Information, Press and Publicity Minister, Rafael Núñez; Cheif of the Military Assistant Corp, General Héctor Bienvenido Medina, and the Deputy Director of the Department of National Investigations, Víctor Crispín.


The President was seen off at the terminal by the Directors of the Airport Department Arístides  Fernández Zucco; the Special Security Force of the Airport (CESA in Spanish); General Pedro René Valenzuela, of the DNI; General Ramón Aquino García, the Chief of the National Police; Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzmán Fermín, and the Head of Protocol of the National Palace, among others.


President Fernández will be traveling and following a busy schedule until July 13. His schedule includes meetings with business people and other personalities from these two nations, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


Fernández has a meeting scheduled for 5:00 pm with the German Prime Minister and will meet the same day with the newly chosen German President who will be sworn into office. On Monday July 12, he will be received by President Obama. Both meetings will deal with bilateral topics of interest.


At 1:30 pm next Monday, the President will take part in a work lunch being offered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the German Deputy Foreign Minister, Guido Westernwelle; an hour and a half later, he will meet Prime Minister Angela Merkel. At 3:45, he will meet with the press in the German Foreign Ministry.


At 6 pm, the President will be received by the Director and Vice President of the German Council on Foreign Relations, Fritjof Von Nordenskjöld.


On Tuesday at 11 am, Fernández will participate in a work meeting in the German Bank followed by a lunch hosted by the German Cooperation Bank. At 2:10 he will sign the Golden Book in the Red City Hall.


President Fernández will be received at 2:00 pm this same day in a private audience with Mayor Klaus Wowereit to be followed by a 6:00 activity at the Ibero-American Institute where he will give a speech called “The Dominican Republic: Current Political, Social and Economic Situation and its Perspectives for the Future.”


On Wednesday July 7,  Fernández will arrive in Hamburg to meet with business people from the Business Association for Latin America (LAV in Spanish) at the headquarters of the German Chamber of Congress and Industry (DIHK).


At 12:30 pm he will have a conversation with Ole Beust, Mayor of Hamburg and a half hour later will sign the golden book of the city. At 1:30 the President will have lunch with the Senate of Hamburg then leave for the airport to take a private flight to Paris.


On July 8, he will meet with the president of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher at the Luxemburg Palace.


At 4:30 on Friday July 9, he will participate in a meeting with Jacques Attali where they will sign the contract “The Implementation of the International Commission of Reflection on the Challenges for the Future of the Dominican Republic” which will be attended by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Juan Temístocles Montás representing the Dominican government.


On Saturday July 10, the President will leave on an Air France flight to New York where he will have various private meetings and on Sunday he will fly to Washington DC from the Teterboro Airport of New Jersey.


Monday July 12, he will have a work meeting with US President Barack Obama. On Tuesday at 10 am, he will visit George Washington University.


President Fernández will return to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday July 14 to the San Isidro Air Base.
