Carnival Villa Mella 2010 Festivities

With more than 100 colorful dance troupes, endless imagination and authentic costumes, characters and activities, the Villa Mella 2010 Carnival was celebrated to great success and joy.

The event was dedicated to cultural folklorist and carnival contributor and worker, José Altagracia Puello (Abel).

The Mayor of Santo Domingo North, Jesús Féliz, and Senator Cristina Lizardo presided over the carnival festivities.

The parade was led by the King and Queen of Carnival, Víctor Piñeiro and Isabel Domínguez, both well-known for their work and contributions to the world of culture. The event was attended by thousands of residents of the province of Santo Domingo North. The winning categories for the participating groups included “Popular Creativity.” “Fantasy,” “Traditional,” “Limping Devils,” “Historical,” and “Ali Baba.”   

In the individual categories, the “Individual Character” and “Individual Costume” were selected. In the group category, the local dance troupe was awarded.
