Dominican President Dr. Leonel Fernández hosted a lunch at the National Palace on Tuesday for several Big League baseball players who will be leaving soon for the upcoming season’s Spring training sessions with their respective teams. The lunch was also to celebrate the victory of the Dominican team in the Caribbean Series.



The meeting also served to celebrate the victory of the Leones de Escogido who represented the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series.


The Big Leaguers were introduced at the National Palace by the Minister of Sports, Felipe (Jay) Payano.

Among the ball players at the lunch with the Head of State were David Ortiz, Leo Ortiz, Robinson Canó, Francisco Cordero, Octavio Dotel and Hanley Ramírez.

Also present was, Moisés Alou, general manager of the Leones del Escogido, the winning team of the winter baseball tournament, the Caribbean Series, held in Isla Margarita, Venezuela.

Others at the lunch offered by the President and held in the National Palace Dining Hall, included José Vera, Melky Cabrera, Manny Mota and Julio Lugo.
