The Dominican Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García Fernández met with the major representatives of tour operator and travel agent associations with whom he analyzed the strategies they intend to draw up together to reinforce tourism activity in the Dominican Republic.

Mr. García Fernández held a meeting, which he called historic, for over four hours with the main executives of the Dominican Travel Agencies Association (ADAVIT), the Dominican Tour Operators Association (ADOTUR), the Dominican Association of Congresses, Conventions and Similar Groups (ADOCA), Tour Operators of Punta Cana (ASOTUR), according to the Office of Press and Communications.

The meeting served as a base for the various tourism representatives and authorities of the Ministry, headed by García Fernández, to take a closer look at what is being done in the public as well as private sector and how they are functioning and growing in terms of tourism on a local and international level.

In addition, they also dealt with the legal issues that exist around the regulation of travel agencies, tour operators, excursion providers, guides, drivers and transportation providers, among others. It was agreed that they would all work together to update the current norms.

In addition to García Fernández, other ministry officials attended the meeting including Magaly Toribio, Deputy Minister of International Tourism Promotion; Fausto Fernández, Deputy Minister of the South Central and Maribel Villalona, Director of the Planning and Projects Department (DPP in Spanish).

Representatives from the tour operators and travel agents included, among others, Linnette Arbaje, Dennos Reyes, Jochy Mella, Elizabeth Tobar and José Aparicio.
