Quality of Education Dialogue Gets Underway

Dominican President Leonel Fernández will head up the Dialogue for Quality in Education to be held in the National Palace this Thursday and to be attended by all those connected to the country’s education system.

President Fernández accepted the proposal from the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) to begin a national discussion on improving the quality of Dominican education.

The activity will take place at 6 PM in the Cariátides Hall of the National Palace where leaders and academics in the public education sector as well as representatives from academic institutions, businesspeople and workers from around the country will attend, according to a press release from the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Others expected to attend include the Minister of Economy and Planning, Temístocles Montás, and participants from the Education Work Table who met at the recent Summit for National Unity in the Face of the World Economic Crisis.

President Fernández accepted the proposal from the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) to begin a national discussion on improving the quality of Dominican education.

“We welcome, in all its dimensions, the proposal from CONEP to carry out a social pact with the various sectors of the country with the goal of guaranteeing a quality education in the Dominican Republic,” said the President at the opening ceremony at the inauguration of the UASD in Bonao.

The undertaking of this dialogue should conclude with the signing of an agreement to jointly seek and support “Quality of Dominican Education.”
