The Ministry of Tourism invested $500 million in the repair of the access roads of Bávaro and has completed 95% of the repaving jobs, as part of the National Program of Asphalting Touristic Areas.

This information was released by Francisco Javier García Fernández,


Minister of Tourism, who said this program has already been extended to Boca Chica, Guayacanes, Juan Dolio, Bayahibe and the roads of Samaná-Las Galeras and Sánchez-Las Terreras, according to Office of Press and Communications.


The Minister said that road infrastructure is indispensable for tourism development in the various destinations the country has to offer. He said SECTUR has the AC-30 (asphalt material) necessary for repaving all the access roads in the tourism destinations.


In the case of the roads in Cabrera that were solicited by international and national businessmen, Mr. García Fernández asked the Department of Planning and Projects (DPP) to make a complete and rapid gutting of the roads and areas that needed it.


“The investment that must be made will be made by us. In the Ministry, we have the means to do so,” he said in the meeting with national and international investors of the municipality of Cabrera , in the province María Trinidad Sánchez.


García Fernández released the information after having met with Rebecca MacDonald, owner of the fast-food chain MacDonald’s, who has a residence in the municipality of Cabrera , with an investment of over $20 million.


In the meeting with the Minister of Tourism, apart from Rebecca MacDonald, were investors Sheila Jacob and Nelson Tejada; the syndicate of this community, Jorge Hugo Cavoli; Iván Rodríguez, President of the Commission on Tourism of the Chamber of Representatives of Puerto Rico; the Governor of the province, Arístides Victoria; and Luis Sosa Eve and Luis Toral Córdova.


The team accompanying the Minister included Deputy Minister of Tourism in the Northern Region, Cesar José de los Santos ; the personal assistant, José Gabriel García and the director of the Department of Planning and Projects (DPP), Maribel Villalona.
