The Alliance of Dominican-American Visual Artists (ADAVA) is presenting a series of art exhibitions as part of an effort to contribute to the development of art and culture in Washington Heights and Inwood areas of New York City. The exhibition, open from the 1st until the 30th of this month, are part of the 7th Art Walk of Upper Manhattan 2009, taking place in New York City. ADAVA is an organization made up of Dominicans living in the United States.

According to visual artist Ezequiel Jiménez, president of ADAVA, the purpose of the exhibition is to reaffirm once again the unshakeable mission of the institution which is “to promote the development of the visual arts and to contribute to the quality of life in our city and offer opportunities to artists to promote their work.”


Participating in the category of “The Changing Qualities of Light” (photography), are the well-known photographers: Narciso Polanco, Teresa Peláez, Máximo Tejada, Freddy Polanco and Luis Martínez.


In the painting category, “Filling Our Neighborhood with Colors” exhibitors include: René De Los Santos, José ‘Artie’ Parra and Robert Paulino as well as painters: Félix Dicló, Marisa van Pol, Lucho Capellán, Yuvira Montilla, Frank Polanco (Frentón), José Luis Decena, Narciso Polanco, Henry Vargas, Eilis Soto, Joseph Gastón, and Gladys E. Pérez.


The drawing show will feature “Drawings in Black, White & Colors” the visual artists showing their talent in the use of pencil, charcoal, pastels and ink on paper are Ezequiel Jiménez, Edgar González, Henry Vargas and José ‘Artie’ Parra. Venues for the exhibitions are the Hintersteiner Gallery in CB 12, The Gallery Space at Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion, in New York City.
