UNESCO Executive Board Approves the Creation of the “Juan Bosch Award for Social Science Research”

The 181st Session of UNESCO’s Board of Directors approved the creation of the “Juan Bosch Award for the Promotion of Social Science Research” in Latin America and the Caribbean.


the Prize will constitute a motivation for young people in the region and will encourage intellectual exchange and dialogue among Latin America and the Caribbean.


The award was proposed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an initiative by the Dominican delegation and has the support of Latin and Caribbean members of GRULAC (Latin American and Caribbean Group) and in particular delegations from Cuba, Venezuela and Costa Rica where Professor Juan Bosch spent many years in exile. These three countries have also been historically linked to the Dominican democratic experience.


The Award will be given every two years for the best thesis contributing to the improvement of knowledge and comprehension of the crucial problems facing contemporary society. The winning research will reinforce contributions in the area of Social Sciences in the search for solutions to current social problems.


As such, the Prize will constitute a motivation for young people in the region and will encourage intellectual exchange and dialogue among Latin America and the Caribbean.
