Jazz in Dominicana and Dewar’s 12 present a blending of two cultural genres: jazz and photography. Throughout the entire month of May, the Photo Show “The Colors of Jazz,” exquisite photos with a jazz theme, will be on display every Wednesday at the Jazz in Dominicana space in the Theater House (Casa de Teatro).

“For those of us who think music sometimes is absorbed better with the eyes, their words invite us to listen…”

Fernando Rodriguez De Mondesert, of Jazz in Dominicana said “the blend of jazz and photography is not new. Since the beginning of jazz, photographers have been capturing the best moments of these incredible musicians and sharing them with the rest of the world.” Later, in a commentary on Jazz in Dominicana’s blog he wrote, “For those of us who think music sometimes is absorbed better with the eyes, their words invite us to listen… some were initially uncomfortable with an event in which music would be heard through our eyes, thanks to the magic of talented photographers.”

“The Colors of Jazz” will transmit a feeling of the musical genre to the public through photographs of the musicians and vocalists who participate in the space every Wednesday. This will allow us to visit the exhibition “to see and feel” the fascinating musical notes they make with their instruments.

Fernando added that it is a great honor for us, on this first occasion of the event, to have as guest of honor, Ernesto Dos Santos who will be showing some of the best work from his collection, “All Things Jazz,” which is currently on display at the Jazz Gallery in New York. The show has been brought over for “The Colors of Jazz” exhibition. Other local exhibitors include: Jeffrey Rodríguez, Iván Méndez, Juan De Los Santos, Pedro Genaro Rodríguez, Fausto Fontana, Henry E. Villeta, Saúl Santana, Erika Bueno, Melissa Hernández, Oscar Suazo, José Alney Uribe and Pedro Farías-Nardi. Well-known photographers include Mirella Frangella, Yuri Checcucci, Jeffrey Rodríguez and Iván Méndez”.

The show will be open to the public until Wednesday, May 27.
