President Fernández Inaugurates New Community Canteen in San Cristobal

The President of the Republic, Doctor Leonel Fernández, inaugurated a new Community Canteen, which has the capacity to produce 5,000 meals per day and therefore meet the nutritional needs of the low income sector in the municipality of San Cristobal. The government invested 4.7 million pesos in the new canteen.

The President cut the ribbon of the new public canteen then took a tour of the installations. He was accompanied by the Administrator of Economic Canteens and other officials.

The general administrator of the State Economic Canteens, Nicolás Calderón, said the new canteen, located in the Lava Pié sector, has industrial kitchen equipment required to meet international standards.

Calderón said that to guarantee maximum efficiency, they will hire 22 new employees who will be in charge of dispensing first class service to those who will be eating at the canteen on a daily basis.

He added that to cover the food needs of the town that sits in cradle of the Republic, 25 more mobile canteens will be established to further guarantee the nutritional needs of the people living in the towns and neighborhoods of Moscow, Madre Vieja Northe and South, Hatillo, Los Chivos, Villa Progreso, Canastica, La Palmita, Cinco de Abril, Los Molina, among others.

The executive of the governmental organization indicated that the producer canteen inaugurated by the President has met all the indispensable requirements to be able to fulfill the demand for food among the low income residents of such towns as Lava Pié, Pueblo Nuevo, Cañada Honda, Conani, Madre Vieja Sur, Miracielo, Los Nova and Villa Valdez, among others.
