The Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health announced a plan to implement a series of strategies to optimize the quality of food consumed by tourists who visit the Dominican Republic as well as a general improvement in environmental health.

This event is a cultural, aesthetic, social, dreamlike, mystical, and philosophical challenge that celebrates the ocean as a point of convergence, a link, art and a frontier.

The Spanish Cultural Center and Art-Studio present the International Performance Encounter dedicated to Silvano Lora to be held from April 20 to May 10. The goal of the encounter is to emphasize the presence of the ocean (mar) in our history and the multiple aspects in which it influences our current reality as well as the importance of documentation within the performance.

PerforMar is a performance project wherein live actions will be carried out along the coastlines of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica and Haina (beaches, reefs, malecón). This event is a cultural, aesthetic, social, dreamlike, mystical, and philosophical challenge that celebrates the ocean as a point of convergence, a link, art and a frontier.

Sayuri Guzmán and Clara Caminero of Art-Studio explained that they chose these places along the Caribbean Sea because “It is the sea’s water that brings us the fury of nature and heralds the arrival of hurricanes, it is the source of life and food; it is our connection to other people in the world. Over the oceans many have risked their lives to reach other lands in search of better opportunities, and it is on the ocean that many people travel for pleasure.”

National as well as international artists attending the meeting include Regina Galindo from Guatemala, winner of the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennial; Aída Rico of Venezuela; The Projector Group from Colombia; Edith Medina and Antonio Juárez from México and from the Dominican Republic José Pión, Caryana Castillo, Geo Ripley, David Pérez (Karmadavis), among others.

The Spanish Cultural Center will be the headquarters for the PerforMar exhibitions as well as the theoretical encounters, conferences and workshops. More information and programming is available on the Spanish Cultural Center’s website: www.ccesd.org.
