The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and more than 20 women from different sectors of society created the “Women’s Forest” in the El Cachón de la Rubia, Santo Domingo East, as part of the work being done to recover the country’s forests.

“Today we celebrate women who in one way or another have won the right to be protagonists on the frontline in the areas of health, politics, social organizations, communication, environment…”

Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, Minister of Environment headed the activity, held at the end of March in honor of Women’s Month.

“Today we celebrate women who in one way or another have won the right to be protagonists on the frontline in the areas of health, politics, social organizations, communication, environment…in all areas. They have always played a role, committed to social development in search of overcoming all forms of poverty and violence,” Fernández Mirabal said.

He reminded people that today is National Neighborhood Organization Day and that it is neighbors who best build places like the El Cachón de la Rubia, an area in the process of recovery by the Ministry of Environment with the participation of the community. In the past, the area was negatively affected by inadequate management of solid waste.

During the event, Mery Pérez widow of Marranzini, said that women, in addition to being mothers and pillars of the family, are also active in creating a better country.

The Ministry of Environment confirmed that similar recovery processes are going to be carried out in the Mallén Lake area (San Pedro de Macorís), the central park of Santiago, the Barahona Park, Los Alcarrizos, in the Las Lagunas Ecological Park and the Ozama Wetlands.

The trees planted are characterized by their female names, such as anacahuita, caya, mahogany, penda, carambola, beach grapes, sea and mountain grapes. The women who participated in the reforestation day project along with the Environment Ministry were:
