M ore than 80 athletes are expected to participate in the 7th annual surfing, kite-surfing and y windsurfing competition to be held in Cabarete, northern Dominican Republic.

Cabarete is once again hosting one of the most important and pioneering competitions of its genre: “Master of the Ocean,” to be celebrated this year from February 24 to March 1.

This is an annual sports contest that brings together the greatest figures in the world of surfing, kite-surfing and windsurfing from within the country and abroad. They come here to see who will be crowned the “king of the waves.”

“We’re continuing with the goal of placing the Dominican Republic at the highest levels of this sport,” assured Marcus Böhm, organizer of this aquatic triathlon. “We’re back this year with the same enthusiasm as always, ready to show support for Cabarete and its people but especially for the young folks who see this sport as a positive and progressive activity.”

Marcus Böhm also announced that judges of the Master of the Ocean event (not associated with any international federation) are themselves well-known athletes in each of the categories.

Event organizers are expecting more than 80 participants from the DR and other countries. Michael Guzmán, James Otis, Luciano González, Yan Marco Rivera and Manuel Rondón were winners in previous competitions. Some of them were also present at the press conference.

In addition to attractive prizes, this 7th edition of the competition is also offering a complete program of nocturnal and cultural activities “that complement the spirit transmitted by each one of the daily contests,” said Böhm. Indeed, one of the parallel activities will be the el “IndepenDance Ocean Sound Festival,” in which some twenty or more DJs will participate.

“Master of the Ocean” is made possible with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Physical Education and Recreation. Other sponsors include Supligen, Colgate, Millennium, Compact Tours, Kite Beach Hotel, Ocean Dream, Ocean One, Tres Media Communication Laboratory, Take Off, Lax, Cinnamon Café, Oakley and Europcar.
