New Duarte Park in Moca

The new Park in Moca will be inaugurated on December 9 in the presence of President Leonel Fernández.

Included in the modern design are fountains and lights, benches and spaces for recreational activity in addition to an amphitheater for artistic presentations.

The new park, a project carried out by the Moca Town Hall with support from the Engineers Supervisory Office of the Ministry of Public Works, amounts to a total refurbishment of the plaza.

At the center of the park will sit a giant sculpture of Juan Pablo Duarte, the Father of the Nation, done by Félix Tejada, a native of Moca and current director of the Gabriel del Orbe School of Fine Arts in Moca.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture has designed a space in the shape of a cupola that contains the remains of the very first inhabitants of Moca, which are part of an important anthropological discovery made here about 2 years ago.

Technicians from the Museum of the Dominican Man have been working intensely to find a permanent place to display these remains. This new plaza will be the first of its kind, with these characteristics, in the entire country.

This endeavor is part of a joint effort which includes the restoration and general reconstruction of the historic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, a project of the Cultural Infrastructure Department of the Ministry of Culture. The unveiling of the new area is scheduled for December 9.
