As part of the ongoing activities for Reforestation Month, celebrated in October, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources continues to open new fronts with symbolic plantings and a massive reforestation in the Loma Atravesada de Jima area of Bonao.

Those participating in the Loma Atravesada activity included Volunteers from Falconbridge, soldiers from the Battle of Carreras Military Academy and the Association for the Development of Sabana del Puerto, represented by Rafael García, President of the Pro-Development Association and Rafael Acosta, General Manager of Falconbridge.

Fernández Mirabal said “our ancestors came down the mountain to build our country and now it is up to us to climb the mountain to make our country green.” More than 3,000 native pine trees were planted throughout the day.

More than 200 public, private and civic organizations have activities planned for Reforestation Month.
