“Pinchos & Rolos,” a 22-minute musical comedy, is Vargas´s 8th short film and his first in 35 mm. It was selected to participate in the Day Dreaming shorts section of the New York Latino International Film Festival.

The documentary will show on July 24&25 in the Fordham University Auditorium of the Lincoln Center Campus.

The film, which was shot in 4 days in the Dominican neighborhood of  Washington Heights in upper Manhattan, New York, was inspired by a theater piece with the same name written by his aunt, the playwright Elizabeth Ovalle. The other inspiration, says Vargas, was the popular Spanish musical called “El otro lado de la cama.” (The Other Side of the Bed).

Vargas was the winner of the HBO and NYILFF in 2007 for his short film “Hispaniola.”

The team of actors includes Laura Gómez (currently in the Spanish Repertorio of “Do
ña Flor and Her Two Husbands), Anthony Álvarez (La Madición del Padre Cardona, Frida, The Time of the Butterflies), and the young actors, Angie Jerez, Alexandra Gutiérrez and Sandie Luna, in addition to Fidel Vicioso in the role of Felin.
