Lopesan Hotel Group Opens Costa Bávaro Resort, Spa & Casino, its First Facility in the Dominican Republic

Bávaro, Punta Cana, May 9, 2019 – Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort, Spa & Casino opened its doors for the first time in the Dominican Republic after arduously working on the new facility for 15 months. The end result is now Punta Cana’s most modern and exclusive hotel.

The Costa Bávaro Hotel, situated in the country’s eastern region, became a reality after the Lopesan Hotel Group invested 230 million Euros in the project.

The German couple Juergen and Susanne Greiwald will go down in the hotel’s history as being the first guests to register at the hotel. Upon their arrival the couple was greeted by the Group’s CEO, Francisco López, who warmly greeted them and asked them to sign a special guest book. The five-star hotel, featuring 1,042-rooms, will contribute to the country’s economy through the creation of more than one thousand jobs.

The company has networked with some of the most important tour operators from the U.S. and Canada. The goal is to sell the hotel and its wonderful facilities to the North American public. However, CEO López also encouraged “…citizens from the Canary Islands to visit the Dominican Republic and let themselves be overwhelmed by the wonderful beauty of the country and our truly spectacular hotel.”

Aside from thanking all those that made the project a fascinating reality in record time…and to introduce for the first time the Lopesan Hotel Group in the Caribbean…” López commented on the “…bureaucratic and administrative hurdles the company had to face in the development of other facilities.” These challenges stopped the construction of an additional three thousand rooms by Lopesan in the Canary Islands, a situation that forced the company to look at Punta Cana as their new destination.

The Lopesan Hotel Group will invest another 200 million Euros in the second phase of the Costa Bávaro project, which will include an additional 2,050 rooms. This phase is expected to be completed in 2021. This project is a milestone for the renowned hotel group because in 36 months it will have built in the Dominican Republic the same number of rooms that it took the company 15 years to build in the Meloneras region in the Canary Islands.

Punta Cana, the Caribbean’s most important tourism destination, offers the visiting tourist spectacular tropical scenery. And the Lopesan Costa Bávaro hotel has the privilege of being situated in some of the most beautiful land the country has to offer. The beach itself is integrated into the hotel’s design. It is also one of the largest resorts in the region and it is the only hotel that guarantees seafront views from each particular room. No other hotel in the entire region can offer this wonderful attraction.

Lopesan Costa Meloneras as a Reference

The hotel’s groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 2, 2018, with the presence of President Danilo Medina, who headed the well-attended event. President Medina was accompanied during the event by five of his closest Ministers, as well as other government and military officials. Other invitees included members of the national press. During the ceremony representatives from the Lopesan Hotel Group promised to create a vanguard concept where the hotel would be the visitor’s main attraction. The hotel’s design is shaped in the form of a “U”, thus guaranteeing spectacular views of the surrounding area from each hotel room.

The project’s architectural design is very similar to the Lopesan Costa Meloneras resort, the first built by the Group in the Canary Islands. This first hotel has served as an inspiration to give the Costa Bávaro facility an overall colonial-style ambience. Lopesan Costa Meloneras is currently the largest hotel in Europe, with 1,100 rooms. Its innovative design and world-class services has earned it various prestigious international awards, including the World Travel Awards 2018 and 2019 for the best European resort in Europe.

The Boulevard is another successful concept introduced by the Lopesan Hotel Group, and successfully exported by the company from the Canary Islands to Punta Cana. The shopping boulevard also features many entertaining attractions for hotel guests, such as a water park, restaurants, a modern gymnasium, a casino and a 900-seat theater.

A Piece of the Canary Islands in the Caribbean

The Lopesan Costa Bávaro design is inspired by the colonial architecture that is so prevalent in Latin America and the Canary Islands. The architecture features local materials such as precious wood, coral stone and palm fronds, and specific details of Dominican architecture. The combination of all these elements gives the facility a very distinctive Caribbean flavor.

The resort’s design is a creation of the HKS Company, one of the world’s most distinguished architectural firms that specialize in hotel designs. The Dominican construction company Codelpa has been charged with seeing the project through, and providing the experience accumulated during the last few decades. It is one of the country’s most renowned companies when it comes to the development of the Dominican tourism industry.

The resort’s grounds and landscaping are the responsibility of the EDSA Company, a well-known U.S. firm specializing in the creation of impressive landscaping designs, where the visitor is able to interact with the different elements that make up the entire project.

The Lopesan Costa Meloneras ‘Infinity Pool’ was designed by the EDSA company. In the Dominican Republic, the company will feature numerous fountains distributed throughout the entire project, including its extensive gardens and outdoor areas.

The resort will also feature seven spectacular swimming pools and an exclusive ‘Infinity Pool,’ which will contribute to highlight the surrounding palm trees and the nearby coral reef situated in front of the resort.
