Fiesta Sunset Jazz Celebrates 9th Year of Featuring Top Jazz in Santo Domingo’s Dominican Fiesta Hotel

Santo Domingo, December 13, 2018 – On December 22, 2009, one of Santo Domingo’s most iconic hotels – the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino – launched a joint project with the organization Jazz en Dominicana known as the Fiesta Sunset Jazz Festival. The opening even featured famed French-Dominican jazz singer Cyrille-Aimée and renowned jazz pianist Gustavo Rodríguez. This first concert soon became the main attraction for jazz lovers in the city.

Next Friday, December 21, the event organizers will proudly celebrate with a big concert the Festival’s ninth year. For the past nine years the Fiesta Sunset Jazz has presented each and every week a special jazz concert for lovers of this musical genre. The upcoming event will be the 48th concert held this year. In total, the Fiesta Sunset Jazz Festival has celebrated 436 concerts in metropolitan Santo Domingo.

The venue is a true comfortable, high quality and service oriented space, providing guests with ample and secure parking spaces.

Each week jazz lovers come together in the hotel’s special lounge, which offers a superb view of the city, to hear top national and international artists express their particular brand of jazz.

In 2018 the Festival was honored to present the following musicians and jazz groups: The Joel Rosario Quintet, who on April 13 celebrated concert number 400; Javier Vargas & ATRE, on April 27, who led the way to the celebration of International Jazz Day 2018. During this particular concert, event organizers recognized the musical careers of musicians Arnaldo Acosta, Manuel -Cukín- Curiel, Esar Simó, Edgar Molina, Federico Méndez and Javier Vargas, as well as producers Fernando Cabrera from Arte Vivo and Fernando Rodríguez de Mondesert, from Jazz en Dominicana. International guests during 2018 included Sandro Comini (Italy); Johnbern Thomas (Haití); Fernando Madera (Puerto Rico); Peter Novelli (Louisiana, USA); Pavel Polanco-Safadit (Indiana, USA); Jonn Reyna (Holand); and Paul Austerlitz (Pennsylvania, USA).

The goal of the Festival organizers is to promote through the Fiesta Sunset Jazz Festival this musical genre in the Dominican Republic.

Crooner Gustavo de Hostos Will Lead Ninth Year Celebration of the Fiesta Sunset Jazz Festival

One could almost hear singer Gustavo de Hostos exclaim: “Happy Anniversary Baby¨! And that’s exactly what he will do on Friday, December 21, when the Festival officially celebrates its ninth anniversary. The well-known Crooner and his friends, in a special Christmas Jazz & Blues concert, will dedicate the musical event to blues great Charles Brown. It will be a spectacular evening with a repertoire filled with popular jazz, blues and bossa nova hits – as well as a few Christmas songs – that Gustavo – as always – will interpret with his particular artistry and singular talent.

The Crooner will be accompanied by his friends Corey Allen (piano); Sly de Moya (percussion); Eric Litman (sax); Rigo Zapata (base); Peter Novelli (guitar and voice). Special guest will be Gigi Mota. Some of the songs to be included will be “Santa´s Blues,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” “Bringing in a Brand New Year,” to mention but a few.
