Dominican Film Debuts in London

London, March 19, 2018 – The latest film produced and directed by Dominican filmmaker José Enrique Pintor (Pinky), titled Mañana no te olvides (unofficial title: “Don’t Forget Tomorrow”) was presented at Bolivar Hall in London to commemorate the 174th anniversary of Dominican Independence. The film was presented as part of the National Independence Day program hosted by the Dominican Embassy in the United Kingdom, with the support of the country’s Ministry of Culture.

The movie positively impacted the approximately 130 British and Dominican guests, including diplomats, movie critics and British representatives of the film industry who attended the showing.

The movie tells the story of individuals living under special conditions and illnesses. The Dominican Ambassador in Great Britain, Dr. Federico Cuello Camilo, revealed that the country has made important advances in the film industry, thanks to Law 108-10 introduced to support the local film industry and the creativity of its people.

During the special showing, organizers also presented Un Acto de Rebeldía al Día (unofficial translation: An Act of Rebellion for a Day), directed, written and produced by Dominicans Isabella Bretón, Gabriela Ortega and Nicole Coiscou. The film is inspired on the high level of gender killings that take place in the Dominican Republic. Its goal is to empower women and help them recognize and act upon the passive attacks they face daily by carrying out “small acts of rebellion.”

The Dominican Embassy thanked the Venezuelan Embassy in the United Kingdom for lending their facilities for the showing. At the same time, the Dominican Embassy – through these kinds of activities – hopes to bring together the Dominican community that currently lives in the UK and also to promote local Dominican talent in the European market.
