Ana Gómez Aspires to Head Dominican Association of Social Agenda Journalists

Santo Domingo, August 6, 2019 – With the goal of contributing to the unification and advancement of its membership, journalist Ana Gómez is working to win the presidency of the Dominican Association of Social Agenda Journalists in the organization’s upcoming elections.
During a recent event sponsored by journalist Ana Gómez, held in Santo Domingo’s National Theater popular bar, she presented her Work Plan 2019-2021, which includes some of the goals she hopes to meet during this time period if she wins.
During her remarks, Gómez highlighted that the organization that represents the country’s social agenda journalists is working to motivate its members, bring in former members, and work on unifying these working journalists.
Her Work Plan, titled “Working on Rebuilding,” is based precisely on the goal of unification and her express wishes to lead an organization that can motivate former members to once again join the Association. “Their absence from the organization limits their rights, according to the Association’s statutes. Even though we are happy to see the return of former members, there are many more that we would like to motivate to join the Association once again,” she stated.
She also highlighted that her wish to head the Association is to contribute to the organization’s reorganization and to the development of educational and cultural projects that will benefit Dominican society and, in particular, the members of the Association.
She also explained that she will work to digitize all Association documents and processes, and strengthen the skills of the organization’s membership. Through this process, members can have better opportunities to join the digital economy as well as develop coherent projects aligned with these specific goals.
“We also want to emphasize the importance we are placing on continuing education programs for our members. We have put together an innovative program to update our members in several areas of modern-day communication, specifically in the area of socially-oriented stories.”
The Work-Plan also highlights the creation of internships where students enrolled in the areas of Social Communication, Journalism and other similar areas so that they can prepare for their first work experience.
Ms. Gómez also explained that if she wins the presidency she will continue to work with some of the Association’s past initiatives, such as the Annual Award for Social Chronicle; the Godmother/Godfather Program; the “Pasarela Rosa” Award; the celebration of the opening of the school year, and the Christmas Holiday Celebration, among other activities.
During the event, Ms. Gómez presented the other journalists who are part of her team, which includes veteran journalists Margarita Brito and Yamira Taveras, who are running as first and second vice-presidents; Caroll Mueses, secretary general; Blanca González, treasurer; Elizabeth Fondeur, public relations secretary; Dinamarca Tineo Bermúdez, Protocol secretary; Lidia Mora, secretary of recreational activities, and Rosa Moreno, secretary for educational affairs.
In her remarks, Ms. Gómez stated: «Dear friends, there is no doubt that we have an excellent team ready to run the Association…during the 2019-2021 period. We represent competent and experienced professionals. Social chronicle journalists have dedicated their entire careers to this aspect of the profession. And, above all, they are journalists who are committed to our Association and have assumed their responsibilities before Dominican society.”
The electoral process will be held on August 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Voting will take place in the main office of the Dominican College of Journalists.
The Association is a not-for-profit organization, created through Law 122-05. In order to comply with this law, the Organization continues to provide opportunities to Dominican journalists in the educational, health and cultural sectors.
«Included in our Work Plan is a special educational and cultural program that will benefit students who come from vulnerable neighborhoods and regions,” explained journalist Ana Gómez.
