Dominican Cultural Commission Will Hold Panel on Dominican Author Jimmy Sierra’s Latest Novel

New York, April 15, 2019 – On Friday, April 26, the Dominican Cultural Commission in New York City will hold a literary panel on author Jimmy Sierra’s latest novel “Idolatría”(Idolatry, non-official translation). Renowned Dominican intellectuals are expected to participate in the Commission-sponsored event, an organization that reports to the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic.

The event will be held at 7:00 p.m., in the Commission’s Rafael Villalona Theater, situated at 541 West 145th Street (almost corner of Broadway), Second Floor, in Manhattan.

According to the organizers of the event, the panelists will discuss popular Dominican mythologies – present in the novel –as well as the literary value of the novel and the role it plays in strengthening Dominican popular culture.

Writer and panelist Rafael Peralta Romero pointed out that the novel Idotría is a plural and inclusive novel.

“It seems that Jimmy decided to include in his novel the entire culture of Dominican society. The novel touches upon the country’s culture, language, our Creole customs, its poetry, but also Dominican culture as part of the universal concept of man. The references to all these cultures and literatures are present in the novel,” explained Peralta Romero in several interviews.

The panel will be open to the general public, and panelists will include well-known Dominican writers and intellectuals such as Julio Aníbal Suárez, Mateo Morrison, Claudio Cabrera, Alexis Almonte, Menoscal Reynoso, Juan Manuel García, Hugo Sánchez, Juan José Encarnación and, of course, Jimmy Sierra, the novel’s author.

The local panelists will be Rubén Sánchez, Diógenes Abreu, Luis Felipe Rodríguez, Ramón Espínola, Franklin Gutiérrez, Tomás Modesto Galán, José Acosta and Miguel Aníbal Perdomo.
