Record participation of international tour operators at Discover Puerto Plata MarkePlace 2014 is announced

The President of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, Mr. Máximo Iglesias Miniño, announced that there will be a record participation of international tour operators at the third edition of the Discover Puerto Plata Markeplace, to be held from October 1st to 3rd at Iberostar Costa Dorada.

Iglesias Miniño explained that tour operators from 16 countries of Europe, Central America and the Caribbean, the main sources of tourists to destinations in the Dominican Republic, will participate in the Discover Puerto Plata Markeplace 2014.

He noted that, as a result of the joint efforts of the private sector and the Ministry of Tourism and with the support of the specialized media, confidence has returned to Puerto Plata as a tourist destination.

“The best proof of this is that this year the requests for participation from international tour operators have gone beyond our expectations,” said the President of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata while providing details of the fair.

The President of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata added that, because of the impact and the international reach it has had, the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace has consolidated itself with each edition, “turning into a major event of the tourism sector of the Northern Coast.”

Mrs. Jakaira Cid, Executive Director of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, reported that this year tour operators from countries such as Ecuador, Switzerland, Spain and Australia, which were not present in previous editions of the Discover Puerto Plata Markeplace, will join the event.

At the press conference that was convened to provide details of the event, Cid said that tour operators from the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Panama will also participate in the event.

She added that “with only three years since its inception, the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace has reached a level of consolidation that fills us with optimism, because, without doubt, it is a sign that very soon this fair will become the most important tourism event for the entire Northern region.”

The Executive Director of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata pointed out that the main Puerto Plata hotels, airlines, additional proposals, and companies providing services related to the sector, will participate in this event to showcase their products and facilities to the tour operators, travel agents, personalities of the local and international tourism industry, and the media attending the exhibition.

She stated that the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace 2014 is an ideal place to conduct negotiations and to reach agreements with the traditional and emerging markets. “In this year’s edition of the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace, 38 suppliers in the tourism industry will participate with 52 stands, as well as 146 agents and tour operators that have confirmed their attendance.”

She thanked the Ministry of Tourism and the National Competitiveness Council for sponsoring the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace 2014. She also thanked the co-sponsoring companies Brugal, Aerodom Siglo XXI, Banco Popular, JetBlue, Banco de Reservas and the sponsors Easy Event Solutions, the Center for Information and Communications (CICOM), the Lifestyle Vacation Resorts, and the VH Hotels.
