Spectacular concert of the Escuelas Libres National Band

Parque Colón was the scene where hundreds of people had the opportunity to appreciate the musical talent of the members of the Escuelas Libres National Band of the Ministry of Culture, during its opening concert.

The musical event began at 8:30 pm, with the singing of the glorious notes of the National Anthem, under the musical direction of Maestro Santy Rodríguez, followed with the interpretation of Dominican songs.

The Escuelas Libres National Band is composed of 55 young people, including boys and girls, who during the concert reaffirmed their musical talents in the proper use of instruments during the interpretation of each piece.

The concert was attended by Claudio Cohén, Coordinator of the Vice Ministry of Creativity and Popular Participation; Samanta Olivero, General Director of Escuelas Libres, among other personalities of the cultural and business spheres of the country. This activity was part of the celebration of “Santo Domingo Colonial Fest”.

The musical repertoire consisted of Dominican songs, such as: “El farolito”, “Compadre Pedro Juan”, “Vivo en una jaula de oro”, “Cariñito de mi vida”, “Reloj no marques las horas”, among others.

Santy Rodríguez, National Coordinator of Music of the Escuelas Libres National System, reported that the band is made of the most outstanding students of the Escuelas Libres National System, who were selected during the process of creation of the orchestra-in-residence, which is under way.

Rodríguez said that these children and young people mainly come from the provinces of Valverde Mao, La Vega, Villa Trina, Monte de la Jagua, Las Cruces, San José de los Llanos, Guachupita, Capotillo, Rio San Juan, and El Seibo.
