Through a forum with the stakeholders of the labor sector, the Ministry seeks to establish policies that ensure decent work and contribute to the economic growth of the country.


The objective of this activity is to strengthen labor relations in order to create a harmonious partnershipbetween the stakeholders with a view to protecting the interests and integrity of both, which in turn will result in economic growth.


The Ministry of Labor organized the Forum “Labor Relations and Economic Development in the Dominican Republic,” with the objective of establishingmechanisms that ensure the equal rights of workers and employers, as well as the economic and social growth of the country.


The objective of this activity is to strengthen labor relations in order to create a harmonious partnershipbetween the stakeholders with a view to protecting the interests and integrity of both, which in turn will result in economic growth.


Among the topics that were discussed at the forum the following stand out: the labor relations system focusing on decent work;the integration of women into the labor market; labor law; employment and competitiveness;and the social protection floor as a guaranteefor equal employment opportunities.


The Minister of Labor, Maritza Hernández, explained that this meetinghas permitted the Ministry to put on the table for discussion socially sensitive topics, which will allowenforceable actions to be consideredwith a view to addressing some of the problems in the workplace.


“The dependency between economics and labor relations is clear, and it is in the interest of the Ministry of Labor to strengthen this relationship,therebyensuring decent work, gender equality and compliance with all the rights of the workers,” Hernández said.


The roundtable discussion thatthe Ministry of Labor organized was attended by representatives of the trade unionssector; the Confederación Nacional de Unidad Sindical (CNUS), the Confederación Autónoma Sindical Clasista (CASC), the National Confederation of Dominican Workers (CNTD); the Directorate of Information and Defense of Affiliates (DIDA); and the Ministry of Women.


In addition, the business sector was represented by the Confederation of Employers of the Dominican Republic (COPARDOM);the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE); the Dominican Association of Free Trade Zones (ADOZONA); and the Dominican Association of Women Entrepreneurs (ADME).
