The majority of the works that Carlos Estévez presents in this exhibition are devoted to the questions and the existential conflicts of human beings, based primarily on the central universal constants: subsistence, happiness, anxiety, pain, love and hate, life and death, and especially the idea of an inner journey, the voyagethat is delimitedby birth and death.

Carlos Estévez (La Habana, 1969)

The renowned Cuban artist, wholives in Florida, interprets everything that happens, the entire world of objects and culture, through the lens of spirituality and reflection on human existence.

The majority of his art projects invite introspectionon a man that is also the cosmos, and who continually meditatesand acts from that transcendental perspective in his quest for understanding the universe. Many of Estévez’sworks look for the”footprints of the soul” or for the “spirit’s abode” in any object or action.

All types of cosmogonies and philosophies that focus on human existence, on anthropological thinking, the conceptions of Afro-Cuban cultures, the esotericism, magic, and even on scientific and technological achievements, imbued with symbolic thinking, are importantto Estévez.

The works of this artist are part of permanent collections at the: Museo Nacional Palacio de Bellas Artes, La Habana, Cuba; The Bronx Museum, New York, USA; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, USA;the Arizona State University Art Museum, Arizona, USA; and theMuseum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), Long Beach, CA, USA; among others.
