Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 3/27/2012

The Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo will inaugurate the traveling exhibition, “Bridges. Roads in Water” on March 30th at 7 pm. The show, featuring seven Spanish painters using different visual languages, is traveling around the country incorporating the work of Dominican artists.

“Subjected to the most distant concerns and latitudes, artists gathering here seem to be meeting under the concept of a bridge….

Artists Raúl Recio and Inés Tolentino are joining the exhibition coordinated by Rafael Liaño. The other Spanish artists participating are Dis Berlin, Ciuco Gutiérrez, Rafael Liaño, Cristina Lucas, Ángel Marcos, Alicia Martin and Miguel Villarino.

The main idea of this collective is to establish bridges of communication through which new roads run and that promote the exchange between Spanish artists and Latin American artists. This way, as they travel their road through Latin America, they are incorporating representatives from the countries they visit with the goal of strengthening the idea of exchange and contact among artists.

“Subjected to the most distant concerns and latitudes, artists gathering here seem to be meeting under the concept of a bridge, a bridge that not only embraces the respective poetics of each one of them, but also, and perhaps more than anything, connects these two continental shores from which they look into the distance while giving continuity to their historical dialogue – this full and conflictive dialogue but without a doubt, fertile and full of future whose recent paragraphs we find even today to still be stimulating to redefine – just as they appear, plagued with heterogeneous voices and subtle blends between Spain and Latin America.”

This is how artist and curator, Oscar Alonso Molina, sees the exhibition, which will be open to the public at the Cultural Center of Spain until May 13.
