Private Company Sponsors Reforestation Project in Haitises

More than 70 executives and employees of Reid & Company, S.A. participated in the “Reid-Forestation” project held in the Monte Plata Biodiversity Park where they planted some 600 Capa trees, which are endemic to the area.

Trees were planted in the 68.3 square kilometer area where Santo Domingo-based companies frequently undertake reforestation and environmental protection activities.

The activity was led by Reid and Company’s president and vice president, Clara Reid de Frankenberg and Georgia Anne Reid, respectively.

Nearly 85% of this is area has been reforested, essentially by lumber-producing trees such Mahogany, Juan I, Oak, Capá and others. The remaining area is covered by pasture land.

Mrs. Clara Reid de Frankenberg said she feels committed to protecting the natural resources of the Dominican Republic and, for that reason, she and her company undertook this reforestation project which, as of now, is going to be become an activity to be undertaken various times throughout the year.

She stressed the importance of protecting this area which holds a lot of water from frequent rainfall and is the birth place of several rivers that provide drinking water for human consumption as well as crop watering.

She emphasized the positive work being done by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as well as other public organizations who are constantly participating in reforestation programs that help strengthen the forest ground covering.

This is a reserve that must be preserved because of its close proximity to Santo Domingo and its huge reserves of flora and fauna.
