The Ministries of Education and Culture are launching art education degree programs in four provinces simultaneously

Participants in this training program must complete the theoretical aspects of the courses and must take and pass other courses including Painting, Music, Theater and Dance.

In this first phase, 240 teachers from Baní, San Pedro de Macorís, Moca and Santo Domingo will receive their training from well-known Dominican artists.

Both the Ministry of Education, through the National Institute for Teacher Training (INAFOCAM in Spanish) and the Ministry of Culture, through the National System for Artistic Training, recently undertook the first ever degree program in Art Education for teachers in Elementary and Middle School of the Dominican Education System.

These programs began simultaneously in four provinces.

In Santo Domingo, the opening event of this degree course took place at the National Conservatory of Music. The event was headed by Franklin Domínguez, Director General of Fine Arts and attended by Deputy Minister of Culture, Bernarda Jorge; Gineida Castillo Díaz, Executive Director of INAFOCAM and Domingo De Los Santos, Director of the National System for Artistic Training.

In this first phase, the 240 teachers will begin receiving their training from well-known Dominican artists. The teachers are from Region 03 of Azua (Bani Educational District); Region 05 of San Pedro de Macorís; Region 06 from La Vega (Moca District) and Regions 10 and 15 of Santo Domingo. One group of teachers will receive classes at the Music Conservatory in Santo Domingo while the other group will develop their program in the Juan Vicente Moscoso Building of the Salome Ureña Superior Teacher Training Institute (ISFODOSU in Spanish) in San Pedro de Macorís.

Classes for the Moca group will take place in the Ramón Cáceres de Estancia Nueva Museum and the Baní group will receive classes in the Perelló Culture Center.

The program is comprised of four modules: Art Education, Art Appreciation, Visual Arts (Painting and Applied Art) and Performing Arts (Music, Theater and Dance). There will also be complimentary activities such as guided tours to the major museums and places of artistic interest, conversations with renowned artists and presentations of performing art.

Participants in this training program must complete the theoretical aspects of the courses and must take and pass other courses including Painting, Music, Theater and Dance.

Enrolled teachers must develop their expressive and art appreciation skills that will enable them to fulfill the artistic requirements in the academic context of the curriculum as developed by the Dominican Education System.
