Photographer Miguel Collado’s exhibit, “Trees in Holga,” opened with a series of 24 exquisite photographs of the trees that line the streets of Santo Domingo, especially in the area of Gazcue, taken with his Lomographic meniscus lens.

Since 2009, he has been working with this type of camera which enables him to capture images of trees that are less literal but more intimate.

The images Collado captured are a collection of contrasts of great strength and character. From his lens, we are able to appreciate the fragility, beauty and majesty of the urban forest of Santo Domingo, the trees that stand as silent witnesses to the lives of the city´s inhabitants with whom they share space.

“I appreciate the alteration the plastic lens produces as well as the details captured on film. Reality is altered but what we see conserves the unique details. The Holga camera gives me the liberty to concentrate on what I am seeing…technical aspects, with any luck, remain in the background. What acquires relevance in these photos is the way the picture is transmuted and the altered colors. The literal ceases to exist,” said Collado at the opening of the exhibition.

Miguel Collado Di Franco was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1972. In addition to being a photographer, he has a degree in economics and international finance and business.

Miguel studied photography at the International Center of Photography (ICP), where he took courses on style, lighting, architectural photography, fashion photography and Photoshop. He studied under such illustrious teachers as Harvey Stein, Shauna Church, Michael Crouser and Arlene Collins.
