Culture Ministry Publishes Gómez Alfonso Family Genealogy

The Ministry of Culture (MINC in Spanish), through the National Publishing House, launched “Los Gómez Alfonso” book, the first in a series of cultural genealogies corresponding to the collection of the Academy of Genealogy.

The event, held in the Ramón Oviedo Hall of the Ministry of Culture was presided over by the writer León Félix Batista, Director General of the National Publishing House; Félix Disla Gómez, author of the book and Luis José Prieto Nouel, President of the Academy of Genealogy who was in charge of launching the book.

Librada Gómez y José Miguel Gómez, representatives of the family were also at the table of honor.

Nouel, during the presentation, stressed the importance of a book and genealogy research of this nature as it provides data that enriches the country’s national history.

“This book brings together part of the extensive genealogical research of their ancestors who, since 2007, was done by the author. Today the Academy of Genealogy inaugurates its program of activities with the presentation of this cultural work, published by the Ministry of Culture,” added Nouel.

In referring to the work, Disla said that “it is a series of notes gathered from different sources that have been put together thanks to the memories of our ancestors. Doing this genealogy has allowed us to get to know our origins and to motivate us to continue searching in each one of the branches of the family.”

The author ended with words of appreciation for the Ministry of Culture for publishing the book and especially for the National Publishing House for its impeccable editing and design.

The event ended with the formal presentation of the book to the author from Léon Félix Batista, Director of the National Publishing House.

Those present included the historians, writers and members of the Gómez Alfonse family who received a free copy of the book.

About the author:

Félix Disla Gómez was born in La Vega. He did his early studies in Moca then later graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. He worked for several years writing a column about sports.
