The Orange Foundation and the Iberoamericana University (UNIBE), through its Graduate School and Psychology Department, introduced ¨Technology Tools for People with Autism.¨ At the presentation conference, Verónica Pensosi, Project Manager for Orange Foundation Spain, presented the different tools that have been designed for people with autism. Manuel Gimeno, Director of Orange Foundation Spain, and Project Technician Blanca Villanía, also spoke about the development and content of projects being created by the Orange Foundation.


These innovative tools, to be used by professionals and families of children with autism in the Dominican Republic, will serve as support for learning and communication for children with autism. These new tools are seen as an important step in aiding those who suffer from or work with young people with this condition.

Examples of these applications include the Azhar program which is a computer or cell phone application for communication, leisure and planning, the first of which apps are already available online. There is also a the In-Tic program which, in addition to offering a dynamic communicator, allows one to create personalized apps for simple computer or cell phone access and to configure apps with the user’s preferred choice of appearance.


Representatives from the Orange Foundation in Santo Domingo at the conference were led by its Director Andrés Ferreiras. Attending the meeting for UNIBE were Dr. Odile Camilo, Academic Vice-Rector and professors Yira Vargas, Hilda Karina Abreu and Laura Sartori as well as representatives from the various foundations that deal with autism issues. There were also students and professionals in the areas of Psychology, Education and Medicine.


The Iberoamericana University, UNIBE, is an educational institution with a deep social commitment, which explains its ongoing interest in undertaking joint projects with these Institutions.
Likewise, the university has developed a series of activities such as undergrad courses, graduate programs, congresses and meetings related to the issue of autism with the goal of training psychologists, educators, doctors and families to develop the skills necessary to help improve communication, learning and the behavior of children with autism.


The Orange Foundation is part of the France Telecom Group. Its objective is to strengthen communication and to create links among people with a special emphasis on those with communication and participation barriers. In order to achieve this, the Orange Foundation works in the area of social techno-integration while carrying out, collaborating and promoting a large number of activities and social projects of a diverse nature, many of them based on communication possibilities through the use of new technology. In this task of serving society, the Foundation makes an effort to meet the needs and respect the rights of people of all abilities, especially among children with autism and their families.
