The Ministry of Education will name a teacher for school in Los Roblitos
República Dominicana, Santo Domingo, 24/07/2011

The Ministry of Education (MINERD) stated that it is taking the steps necessary to create an educational center and name a teacher in Los Roblitos, Padre Las Casas, to provide education to 62 children who are currently not attending school.

“has requested that a proper project for the center be presented, as the current school has no code (in the public education system) and therefore no personnel can be assigned to it”.

Magalys Casilla, MINERD’s human resources director, confirmed that the file for School District 0302 in Padre Las Casas, which proposed the designation of a teacher, will be sent to said section office on July 21, as set forth by the regulations for the designation of teachers at the start of a school year.

Casilla explained that, according to that file, the area had a private educational center sponsored by a religious order, but it closed down two years ago due to lack of funding.

This is MINERD’s response to information exposed and written by journalist Vianco Martínez according to whom, the community has had to light candles to pray for the designation of a teacher so that the educational center can reopen.

On the subject, vice minister Adalberto Martínez, responsible for MINERD’s Educational Assessment and Supervision, said that said center does not exist under the public education system listings and therefore, it needs to be officially created through the appropriate mechanisms.

Likewise, Casilla has stated that the Ministry: “has requested that a proper project for the center be presented, as the current school has no code (in the public education system) and therefore no personnel can be assigned to it”.

She added that the solution suggested by the District Director was the designation of a teacher for the start of the 2011-2012 school year in a different educational center that would serve the needs of inhabitants of el Roblito, a community which has, in fact, shown to be in need of a teacher.

In order to officially create an education center, explains viceminister Martínez, the School District must investigate the case through the corresponding Regional Direction, to determine whether there is a real need for one. If it is deemed so, the request is forwarded to the Basic Education Area, which in turn reviews and debates it, before passing it to the Department of Educational Center Accreditation and Categorization. “After that step, the case is transferred to the Planning Direction, so that the project can be entered into the budget and a code can be assigned”, he added.

In cases such as Los Roblitos, and while all the appropriate steps are followed, provisional measures may be applied, which will help satisfy the need. “All these steps are necessary, because creating a school has implications that are not only economical, but also of a different nature”, said Martínez.
